Longtime community leader to strengthen partnerships, inspire local philanthropy, and bring people together to create lasting change across Wayne and Union counties
(RICHMOND, Ind., August 4, 2026) – United Way of Whitewater Valley is pleased to announce Katie Wayt as its new Executive Director, effective August 3, 2026.
Wayt joins United Way with nearly a decade of leadership experience in program development, organizational operations, and partnership building. Most recently, she led Indiana University Online’s Supplemental Instruction program, where she worked alongside faculty, university leaders, and student mentors to expand academic support and improve student success.
As Executive Director, Wayt will lead United Way’s efforts, strengthening partnerships, expanding local philanthropy, and bringing together people and resources to address pressing needs throughout Wayne and Union counties. She believes lasting change happens when nonprofits, businesses, government, and residents work together toward shared goals.

Wayt views United Way as more than a fundraiser. She sees it as a trusted community partner that helps connect organizations, mobilize volunteers, inspire generosity, and align resources around local priorities. Her leadership philosophy emphasizes listening first, strengthening relationships, and helping nonprofit partners succeed.
A central theme of Wayt’s leadership is her belief that everyone can make a difference.
“I believe everyone has the ability to be a philanthropist,” Wayt said. “Whether someone gives financially, volunteers their time, shares their talents, or simply helps connect others to opportunities, every contribution helps build a stronger community. I look forward to listening to our nonprofit partners, learning about their goals, and bringing people together to create meaningful local impact.”
Wayt will work closely with United Way’s Board of Directors, volunteers, donors, workplace partners, and nonprofit agencies to continue advancing the organization’s mission of improving lives across Wayne and Union counties. She is committed to making philanthropy more accessible and helping residents understand that gifts of every size can create lasting change.
A longtime Richmond resident, Wayt and her husband Bryan have called the community home for 26 years. They have raised their three children here and remain actively involved in local activities. Their deep roots in the region reinforce Wayt’s commitment to strengthening the place her family has long called home.
